Jaak Treiman
Consul General of Estonia in Los Angeles
Appointed Honorary Consul for Estonia in 1986, he has continued to serve in that capacity since then. He was elected as Treasurer of the Los Angeles Consular Corps, which is the world’s third largest, on two separate occasions.
Mr. Treiman presents Innovation Democracy, Inc. as a Co-founder and General Counsel. This organization is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2006 and the aim is to support innovation and entrepreneurship in countries important to world stability, including Afghanistan. In addition Mr. Treiman has membership in Board of Directors of U.S.-Baltic Foundation, a Washington, D.C. 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1990. The goal of U.S.-Baltic Foundation is directed in support of democratic and free market reforms in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Starting from 1995 till 1998 he acted as Board Chair.
Mr. Treiman was a guest lecturer on International Business at Loyola Marymount College and UCLA. He has an experience of representing a number of foreign commercial enterprises in their American activities; including Italian export companies, an Australian investment syndicate, and a British mobile telephone company. Besides, Mr. Treiman has represented American firms in establishing business activities in Estonia.
Mr. Treiman has graduated with M.A. in International Relations from University of Chicago, with J.D. from University of Southern California and has graduated from University of Southern California with B.A. in Political Science.
Mr. Treiman has published “Estonia, Doing Due Diligence," in Trade & Culture, on March, 1996, "Estonia, Baltic Bright Spot," again in Trade & Culture, on January, 1995. Made commentary "Looking Beyond Our Immediate Problems," in American Baltic News, on March 1993. Another commentary wrote by Mr. Treiman is "Regarding Estonia's Russians, the Basic Issue Is Justice," in Christian Science Monitor, on December 16, 1992. Also Mr. Treiman made commentary "The Soviet Secession Law is a Sham." in Wall Street Journal, European Edition, on July 3, 1990.
