Sergei Kambalov, a Russian national, born in 1949 in Riga, Latvia.
Chief, ECOSOC and Interorganizational Cooperation Branch, Office of ECOSOC Support and Coordination, DESA. The Branch serves as the focal point in the United Nations Secretariat for interreligious, intercultural and intercivilizational matters within the United Nations system.
Prior to the present position: Deputy Executive Coordinator of the Secretariat of the United Nations Information and Communication Technologies Task Force (2002-2005), Chief, Policy Coordination Section, Division for ECOSOC Support and Coordination, Department of Economic and Social Affairs(2000-2002), and member of the author team of the World Economic and Social Survey (1989-1997).
Prior to joining the United Nations in February 1989 he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR and in academia.
PhD in International Economics from the Diplomatic Academy, Moscow.
Graduate of the Department of Economics, State Moscow University (1973).
Author and co-author of several books, including “Economic tools of ‘power policy’” (1986), “USSR – USA and Canada: problems of trade and economic relations” (1987), “Concise dictionary/reference on foreign economic relations” (1988) and others.
