Excellence Scholar – WB 2006

B.A., Economics, New York University

Debbie Zwi is a native of Campinas, Brazil and recently completed her degree at New York University in New York City, where she focused on Economics and Politics. At NYU, she was selected as a Deans Circle Scholar and authored, “A Comparison of Modern Genocides to the Holocaust,” with a focus on Darfur. In 2005, Deborah was awarded the Inter-American Economics Council’s Fellowship for Intercultural Understanding and presented her research on corporate social responsibility at the 7th Global Leadership Forum at the University of Bacheshir, Turkey.

Deborah is currently working for Bloomberg LLC in New York and plans to further her studies in Economics, with the hope of contributing her knowledge to the development of emerging economies.

“At Athgo’s International Forum in Washington DC, I realized a whole new side to the term “youth.” For the first time I was working side by side with people who had a lot more under their belt than I – people with Masters, PhD’s, or years of experience in their respective fields. I dedicated hours of work with fellow committee members to complete the Final Resolution after the forum ended. The time spent away from the World Bank underlined how taking part in the conference was just as important as making connections with new friends.

Furthermore, my experience showed me how connections are so reachable – regardless of our difference in age, culture, studies or politics – we created a steady team of enthusiasts across the United States and abroad that will work towards leaping over the world’s obstacles, one resolution at a time.”
