Jaakko Kooroshy grew up in an immigrant neighbourhood just a
stone’s throw from the Berlin Wall. His mother (Finnish) and
father (Iranian) raised him with a strong awareness of the
injustices of a world in which war, hunger and oppression are a
daily reality for large parts of humanity.
In addition to his studies, Jaakko worked for a Dutch NGO
promoting development and quality of life in an unequal global
society and built up a student organization concerned with
sustainability and intercultural dialogue. He currently works as
a researcher at the Centre of Full Employment and Equity in
Europe, a research centre at the Faculty of Economics & Business
Administration of the University Maastricht, where he focuses on
the comparative study of labour market institutions in an
international context.
Jaakko intends to pursue graduate training in either public
policy or Middle Eastern studies, but first plans to take some
time off, traveling in the Middle East and helping to manage a
record company with international artists.
“In this intense three-day forum I got a vivid insight
into the nature of the enormous difficulties international
organizations face in crafting solutions for protracted problems
of global scope. Athgo’s International Forum in this way
proved to be an exhaustive but by all measures interesting
gathering and I still vividly remember. This experience was
enriched by the inspiring atmosphere provided by the insightful
keynote speeches and critical panel discussions with the
audience.”
