B.A., Classical Studies, Bishop’s University (Canada)

Hoi Kei Phoebe Chan is from Montreal, Quebec and is in her final year at Bishop’s University, completing an Honors program in Classical Studies with a Minor in Geography. Educated in the Liberal Arts tradition, she seeks to understand and reconcile Classical and Modern world views through an interdisciplinary approach.

Phoebe is involved in many extra-curricular activities such as Research Week, Bishop’s University Singers, Classics Society, Scouting and currently working on the establishment of Bishop’s University Special Needs Association (BUSNA), an association to support students who have Special Needs, just like her.

All these enriching experiences steer her to an open-minded approach towards research, understanding and diplomacy. Phoebe hopes to pursue graduate studies in sustainable development by applying Classical knowledge and eventually work as a young professional in local or international organizations.

“Athgo helped me personally, academically and professionally…it reminded me of the words of wisdom at the Oracle of Delphi, “KNOW THYSELF” and “NOTHING TOO MUCH.” I did not know nor understand myself before this conference, especially how to work with my own disability and special talents.

By knowing myself, I improved academically and professionally by combining skills I acquired through volunteering and extracurricular activities.  The final essay I have written for the conference allowed me to explore sustainable development (MDG #7) and showed me that I can actually combine my childhood interests together in an attempt to find a solution.”
