Athgo International: Global Forums: World Bank, Washington DC - July 5-7, 2006

The Architects of the Future: Making Tomorrow Better Today
World Bank, Washington DC
July 5-7, 2006
Co-sponsored by the World Bank, External Affairs

The forum involved up to 200 young professionals and students from various national and international Universities, Colleges, and Civic Organizations. The three-day event focused on two objectives:

  1. An effective introduction and education about the World Bank and three of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The forum included a discussion of the MDG one (eradicating extreme poverty and hunger), two (achieving universal primary education), and six (combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases).
  2. Exploring comprehensive implementation strategies for the discussed MDGs while considering the World Bank as one of the frontrunners in achieving the goals.

The participants examined the three of the UN MDGs while focusing on the existing implementation strategies and the past accomplishments. The program also includes discussions about the weaknesses and the strengths of the three MDGs.

The forum produced a resolution that identifies and suggests alternative strategies for securing a constructive outcome in meeting the three MDGs while utilizing the World Bank’s resources. The resolution will be forwarded to the UN Permanent Missions as a recommendation.
